Discover Hladké Životice

Hladké Životice lies in a gentle valley on the banks of the Husí potok stream. Between the Oder Valley and protected river landscapes

One defining natural area is the Bartošovický luh Nature Reserve. It encompasses the naturally meandering course of the Oder, wetlands, reed beds, floodplain meadows and wet woodlands. The protected area extends across the cadastral areas of Bartošovice, Hukovice, Hladké Životice and Pustějov. Hladké Životice is therefore part of a landscape with a river course, wetlands, floodplain meadows and woodland. The naturally meandering Oder, the reed beds and the wet woodland areas form different landscape elements within the same protected area.

Church, chapels and crosses in the town

The Church of St. Nicholas was built as a new stone church in 1686 and is an important historical landmark of Hladké Životice. At the upper edge of the town in the direction of Fulnek stands the Chapel of St. Florian. The built-up area of the town also contains the chapel known as “Michelova kaplička.”

Several smaller monuments complete this picture. Hladké Životice is home to a sandstone Latin cross dating from 1870, as well as a wooden mission cross from 1912. The torso of the Liebscher Cross from 1877 has also been preserved. The Chapel of St. Agnes and St. Zdislava stands by a linden tree in the direction of Kunín. These sacred sites are distributed across the edge of the town and the built-up area: St. Florian points toward Fulnek, St. Agnes and St. Zdislava toward Kunín, while Michelova kaplička lies within the town.

Cycling and hiking

Cycle Route 6131 passes through Hladké Životice. It runs along third-class roads as well as local and purpose-built routes. The surfaces are asphalt or paved, and the cycle route is suitable for all types of bicycles.

A blue-marked hiking trail also passes through the town. The route is considered easy and leads through the Oder Valley between Jistebník and Suchdol nad Odrou. A hiking route of the Czech Tourist Club starts at Hladké Životice railway station and follows the blue-marked trail toward Bartošovice. The cycling and hiking routes differ clearly in their course: the cycle route follows paved roads and paths, while the blue trail runs through the Oder Valley.
