Benešov u Semil: Cycling Route, Jizera and the Seasons

Situated on the southern slope of Benešovský vrch, Benešov u Semil combines scenic views, riverside experiences and changing activities throughout the year. The view from Benešovský vrch complements this perspective with prominent landscape features: the Krkonoš ridges and the mountains Ještěd, Tábor, Kozákov and Kumburk lie within the described panorama. The suspension bridge over the Jizera

A special experience is the suspension bridge over the Jizera. It is a structure in a modern Alpine style and is considered unique in this form in the Czech Republic and Europe. At the same time, it is the only place in the municipality where one can reach the opposite bank on foot without getting one’s feet wet. This specific function distinguishes the bridge from a mere viewing point.

At the Jizera, two different functions meet. The suspension bridge makes the opposite bank accessible on foot without getting one’s feet wet, while the fish pass at the weir enables fish to migrate in both directions. Thus, human crossing and movement in the river belong to the same section, without the two structures serving the same purpose.

Several appealing traditional log cabins have been preserved in the upper centre of Benešov u Semil. In winter, a groomed cross-country ski trail is prepared above the village.
