Morcinov – Golden Trail, Geology and Hiking Trails

Morcinov combines trails through Bohemian Paradise with a remarkable geological landscape. Here you can discover the Golden Trail, excursions to Tábor, the Kozlov castle ruins and the Ředice u Morcinova geological site. Different trail lengths, marked paths and regional viewpoints make the town an interesting starting point for a trip where nature, activity and discovery come together.

Hiking along the Golden Trail and to Tábor

The Golden Trail running through Morcínov is part of a network of trails in Bohemian Paradise. This network was established from the late 1930s onwards by linking existing paths and marking them uniformly as a single route. A 26.5 km section leads from Kozákov via Morcínov and Košov to Jičín. Morcínov is therefore part of a longer hike through the Český ráj landscape, meaning you do not have to limit yourself to a single local circuit.

The excursion to Tábor also connects several stops. From Lomnice nad Popelkou, the route initially follows green markings to Popelka and then continues along red markings through Morcinov and Košov to Tábor. From the lookout tower, red markings lead back to Lomnice nad Popelkou. The separate excursion leads from Lomnice nad Popelkou via Popelka, Morcinov and Košov to Vrch Tábor and then back to Lomnice nad Popelkou.

For a shorter route, the 8 km Košov–Kozlov–Morcínov–Source of the Cidlina circular trail is available. The Cidlina–Kozlov–Lomnice route also passes through Morcínov, with additional hiking trails leading downhill towards Lomnice nad Popelkou before joining the red-marked Zlatá stezka Českého ráje. Geology, viewpoints and protected nature

The Ředice u Morcinova geological site is registered as a site of geological interest and is part of the Bohemian Paradise National Geopark. Weathered amygdaloid andesitoid, chalcedony, bluish agate, quartz druses and analcime occur there. The site lies southwest of Lomnice nad Popelkou. In the wider surrounding area, a walk across the Ředice Plateau offers views over northern Bohemia, including Bohemian Paradise, the Jizera Mountains and the Krkonoše Mountains. Smetanova vyhlídka is located between Rváčov and Morcinov.

The landscape’s diversity also includes the Kozlov castle ruins. They are part of the Cidlinský hřeben Nature Monument, which protects a forest complex from Peklovsi to Paseky with significant herbaceous undergrowth and the largest population of wood ants in the Podkrkonoší region. Between Košov and Morcinov in Český ráj, there is also a little-known six-hole golf course. An approximately one-hour walk begins in Košov; the path, marked in yellow, blue and green, leads uphill, while the Morcinov holiday settlement lies in a small valley below.
