Oldřichov v Hájích
Oldřichov v Hájích lies in the foothills of the Jizera Mountains between the Hejnický hřbet and Oldřichovský hřbet ridges. The village combines landscape experiences with vivid insights into nature and regional history: on short nature trails, at viewpoints, among historic traces and in an exhibition, active exploration alternates with more leisurely sightseeing. The Jizerskohorské bučiny National Nature Reserve is located in the municipality’s surroundings and has been on the UNESCO list since 2021.
Hiking among beech forests and rock formations
The Oldřichovské bučiny nature trail is 1.3 km long and has 18 stations with interactive elements. Its route leads from Oldřichovské sedlo via the Gorila rock formation and Lysé skály to the Skalní hrad viewpoint. The trail therefore follows a clearly described sequence of forest, rock formations and a viewpoint, while the stations provide additional opportunities for exploration.
The Viničná cesta offers a different perspective on the landscape. It follows a contour line through deciduous forests along the steep, rocky northern slopes of the Jizera Mountains. Its alignment connects the forested slopes with a route between two villages. The trail begins at the Oldřichov v Hájích railway halt and ends in Hejnice. Oldřichov v Hájích railway station is located on railway line 037. Planning a day in the region can therefore include both a compact nature trail with designated stations and a longer connection between two villages.
Understanding nature: visitor centre and nature trail
Dům přírody Jizerských hor is the visitor centre of the Jizerské hory Protected Landscape Area and is located in Oldřichov v Hájích. The centre houses the natural science exhibition “Jizerky všemi smysly” in a former timber-framed agricultural settlement. The exhibition complements the experiences along the trails with a place where the nature of the Jizera Mountains is presented in a building that was formerly shaped by agriculture.
Another starting point is the Ekocentrum grounds in Oldřichov v Hájích. The Včelí nature trail begins there. The two nature trails have different focuses: Oldřichovské bučiny combines its route with rock formations and a viewpoint, while Včelí begins at the Ekocentrum grounds.
Historic traces in the landscape
The Clam-Gallasovská game preserve was established in the mid-19th century and covered an area of 5,500 hectares. Stone posts and deer leaps have been preserved.
Traditional timber-framed houses of the so-called Upper Lusatian house type have also been preserved in Oldřichov v Hájích itself. These include houses No. 5 and No. 330 in Filipka. This creates a contrast with the nature trails when exploring the village: alongside beech forests, rocks and protected areas, traditional architectural forms are also part of the character of the place.
