Graslitz between Castle Traces and the Ore Mountains

Graslitz (Kraslice) lies in the western Ore Mountains and combines a multifaceted history with trails through the landscape. The Svatava River flows through the town. The remains of a medieval castle lie on Zámecký vrch, while marked hiking trails and Cycling Route 2178 lead in different directions. The combination of the river, castle site and marked trails reveals different sides of the town: The terrain points to its medieval past, while the routes lead out into the surrounding area.

Castle History and Mining-Town Heritage

The history of Graslitz began in the 13th century, when the Neuhaus guard castle was founded along an important trade route from Loket to Germany. The Hradiště on Zámecký vrch preserves the remains of a 13th-century castle. These include sections of wall, a round bastion and a moat. Particularly striking is a three-metre-deep cavity carved into the rock.

In 1541, Graslitz was granted the prestigious status of a free mining town. Its prosperity at the time was based primarily on the mining of copper, lead and tin. The Neo-Romanesque Church of the Divine Body, Děkanský kostel Božího těla, has stood in the centre of Graslitz since 1896, on the site of an older medieval church building. The former municipal slaughterhouse complex features unique architecture and technical equipment.

Hiking and Cycling

There are four marked hiking trails in the Graslitz area, in blue, red, yellow and green. In addition to the specifically described blue and red routes, the marked hiking network also includes yellow and green trails. The blue-marked trail begins at the signpost in Graslitz and leads via Tisovské rozcestí to Olověný vrch. The red hiking trail continues from Graslitz to the Rájecké údolí and the former municipality of Rolava. The two described routes lead in different directions: The blue trail takes Olověný vrch as its destination, while the red connects Graslitz with the Rájecké údolí and the former municipality of Rolava. One of the directly associated places is Tisová U Kraslic.

Route 2178 leads from Sokolov to Graslitz and continues to the border near Klingenthal. Its course via Sokolov, Graslitz and the border area differs from the hiking routes via Tisovské rozcestí, Olověný vrch, the Rájecké údolí and the former municipality of Rolava.

Museum and Winter Sports

The Kraslice Railway Museum is another attraction. It is open only on Saturdays during the season.
