The history of Vřesová extends from a dissolved municipality to a settlement that emerged in connection with industrial development. This historical perspective is complemented by two marked cycling routes, a specific starting point, and a sports field. This allows you to get to know the area through its history and its existing paths. The connection between the past, industry, and physical activity offers different ways to experience the area: you can consider its historical development and present-day route layout together, rather than experiencing the area solely from one perspective as an excursion destination.

Vřesová: settlement history and industry

The original municipality of Vřesová was dissolved in 1958. The present-day settlement grew from houses built for the fitters of the Palivový kombinát 25. únor Vřesová. According to historical records, the settlement of Vřesová was located on the road from Chodov to Jindřichovice. The local history developed from the dissolved municipality through the settlement built for fitters to a development closely connected with the industrial complex.

The history of industry can also be traced through specific dates. The first part of the Palivový kombinát Vřesová to be put into operation was a coal-crushing plant opened in 1965. A pressure gasification plant of the Palivový kombinát Vřesová was commissioned in 1969. The area’s older history also includes a simple chapel built in the 19th century. The former chapel of Vřesová was demolished in 1959 together with the settlement’s original buildings.

Cycling on two marked routes

Two marked routes for cyclists run through Vřesová. Cycling Route No. 2043 runs between Vřesová and Stříbrná, while Cycling Route No. 2227 runs between Vřesová and Přebuz. Both routes pass through the area, opening up different directions for further planning. The marked cycling routes begin at the “Vřesová – rozc.” cycling sign at the intersection of roads III/21035 and III/20912. The shared starting point makes it easier to find your way at the beginning of the tour. From there, you can distinguish the two directions by their destinations, Stříbrná and Přebuz, and choose the onward route according to your preferred excursion destination. Before setting off, you can plan to start at the cycling sign at the intersection.

Walking routes and a sports field on site

When walking, it is important to distinguish between hiking trails and local pedestrian connections: no marked hiking trail passes through Vřesová. The main pedestrian routes run along road II/222 on separate sidewalks. In addition, a footpath through the countryside connects the “rozcestí” bus stop with the transport company premises of Sokolovská uhelná, a.s. For physical activity on site, the sports field in Vřesová is equipped for tennis, small-sided football, football tennis, basketball, and volleyball.
