Those who prefer to explore the surroundings on two wheels can choose the “Okolo obory Hájek” cycling loop. The easy circular route is 18 kilometres long, runs along the wildlife park to Hájek and is more suitable for mountain bikes. The two routes offer different forms of activity: the educational trail is shorter and tied to the wildlife park, while the cycling loop focuses on a longer ride.

For arrival, Hájek railway station is located on line 140 between Chomutov, Karlovy Vary and Cheb. It is also integrated into the regional transport system. Arrival adds a separate planning consideration to excursions around Obora Hájek. The connection between the railway station, educational trail and cycling loop allows arrival and the excursion to be planned separately, without assuming additional distances or travel times. Those who want to combine nature and local history can take the transport situation into account alongside the choice between a short loop, a longer cycling tour and cultural destinations.

Water Castle, Chapel and Regional Sacred Art

Hájek also has a history that can be read in its various buildings. The Gothic Hájek Water Castle was built in the 14th century as the seat of the local Loket feudal tenants. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk dates from a later period: it is a protected cultural monument and a small sacred building from the first half of the 19th century. The Trinity Column provides another distinctive feature. It is a high-quality example of applied arts representing a type of small sacred monument typical of the region. Those who want an excursion to encompass not only natural areas but also aspects of regional history will find three very differently characterised points of reference here. The Water Castle represents the 14th century, the chapel sacred architecture of the 19th century, and the column regional craftsmanship.
