Schwarzenbach: Chapel and Local History
Accommodation in Schwarzenbach
The chapel on the Černava–Suchá road tells a story of construction, loss and rebuilding. Schwarzenbach (Černava) can also be understood through its settlement history. Earlier agriculture and raw-material extraction are historical background; for a visit today, the actual access conditions and current dates are what matter.

Chapel on the Černava–Suchá road
The “za kapličkou” forest complex is located by the chapel on the Černava–Suchá road. The chapel was built around 1910–1920. After 1960, only its foundations remained; in 1992 it was restored on those foundations, but at a considerably lower height than before.
Settlements and former livelihoods
Since the First Czechoslovak Republic, the settlements of Rájec and Kobelec have also belonged to the municipality of Černava. Together with the houses in Černava, they formed an almost continuous built-up area. This nearly continuous development describes a settlement pattern at the municipal level; the chapel’s history, by contrast, describes the transformation of a single building.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Černava’s growth was linked to the industrialisation of nearby Neudek, the construction of new transport routes and new livelihood opportunities created by the opening of several quarries in the area. High-quality granite was quarried near Rájec and Kobelec; quartz for glassmaking was extracted in the Černava area. There was also arable farming: in addition to grain and potatoes, cabbage was grown near Černava. The local history thus ranges from quarry work to farming.
Festivals and historical episodes
Den pro Černavu 2026 was scheduled for 5 September 2026 at the large football field in Černava. Announced as an all-day event for the general public, it was to run from 9 a.m. until around 11 p.m. The programme was to include human table football, Kin-Ball and a mini music festival; performances by 9. Planeta, Pjena and Tajfun were also announced, along with free admission. The date has now passed, so this is a dated example of the programme at the time, not a future event date.
A procession in 2017 went from Černava to Rájec. Martin rode a horse and led a group of small glowing mountain spirits through the forest. As a historical episode, the procession adds a festive aspect to the local history.
Local history and travel planning
For your travel planning, the distinction is clear: the chapel, settlement history and former livelihoods are topics of local history, while a festival is tied to a specific date. An older municipal plan describes a pond between Černava and Rájec as a natural bathing site; check the current conditions and access before visiting.
