Velký Třebešov

Velký Třebešov combines a distinctive local history with concrete opportunities for sport, cycling and cultural exploration. Historical Traces in the Village

The Velký Třebešov fortress was built around the middle of the 16th century. The history of the church in Velký Třebešov goes back even further: it is first mentioned in 1355, at which time it was already a parish church. The church's history therefore reaches further back than the construction of the fortress. Gothic window surrounds have been preserved in the church's presbytery and sacristy. St. Stephen's Church also contains a stone baptismal font from the 15th century. In the village, you can therefore encounter various historical testimonies from several periods, from medieval church history to the 16th-century fortress.

Another prominent landmark is the sandstone group of the Most Holy Trinity. It stands at a crossroads next to the “U Pitašů” restaurant and was created in 1816 by the Hořice sculptor J. Vašata. The group is freely accessible. For an additional excursion destination, Česká Skalice is about two kilometres from Velký Třebešov; Česká Skalice is considered the birthplace of Božena Němcová. This birthplace also adds a literary connection to the area.

Cycling Route and Sports Complex

Those who want to explore the village actively can use the “cyklo 34 km” route, a 34 km trail through Velký Třebešov. The sports complex near the “U Vagonu” restaurant includes tennis courts, facilities for nohejbal and volleyball, as well as a children's playground. The route leads through the village, while the sports facilities are grouped together in their own complex by the restaurant. This provides several sporting opportunities and an area for children.

An appointment can be reserved for using the tennis courts. Reservation and payment must be made at least 24 hours in advance; otherwise, opening the court is not guaranteed. Anyone planning to play tennis must therefore arrange the appointment and payment in advance. The Velkotřebešovské kolečko is a local sporting event. 2025 marks the 29th edition, and 2026 the 30th edition.

Festivals and Local Traditions

The traditional Třebešovské posvícení is also part of the village's cultural character. The festival includes competitions, music and an extensive festive menu. Alongside the historic buildings and active pursuits, a local festival tradition is therefore also among the experiences in Velký Třebešov.
