Litoboř among trails, slopes and historic heritage

Litoboř lies in a basin along the Zlámaný potok stream and on slopes extending from west to southeast. The surroundings are characterized by hilly terrain, diverse nature and abundant greenery. Above the village, viewpoints offer views of Česká Skalice, the Rozkoš Reservoir and the wider surrounding area. In addition to its hilly landscape, Litoboř is home to archaeological and religious evidence of the village’s history.

Marked trails for hiking and cycling

The green-marked KČT hiking trail from Litoboř to Boušín and Červený Kostelec runs through Litoboř. A second marked hiking connection is the blue-marked KČT trail from Hořičky via Kalousov, Litoboř, Ratibořice and Jaroměř, which also passes through the village. The first trail leads via Boušín to Červený Kostelec, while the second leads via Kalousov and Ratibořice to Jaroměř.

Cycling is one of the leisure activities in the surroundings of Litoboř. The marked cycling route 4097 runs along the southern edge of the Litoboř area on road II/304. At Donarova samota in Litoboř, riding lessons are available for beginners and advanced riders, as well as rides through the countryside.

Archaeology and monuments in the village

A special historical point of interest is the Turyň fortress site. On a promontory near a small pond, a small remnant of a rampart has been preserved. The Turyň fortress site is classified as a Category UAN I archaeological area and as a significant archaeological site. The Turyň fortress is mentioned in 1399 and was already abandoned by 1542. Those interested in older traces of settlement will therefore not find a fully preserved castle complex here, but rather a designated archaeological site with visible surviving remains.

The village’s monuments also include the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, which is designated in Litoboř as a monument of local significance. The chapel dates from 1800 and received a new electrically powered bell in 1998. Another example of religious art is a stone cross depicting Christ and angels, with a relief of the Virgin Mary, mounted on a stone pedestal. Matěj Drtina had the cross erected in 1823 and donated it to the municipality of Litoboř; it was most recently restored in 2003.

Litoboř is also home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk on a stone pedestal with a relief. It was erected by Jan and Leonorie Dvořáčkovi and was also most recently restored in 2003. Protected House No. 46 adds a secular architectural monument to this historical tour: it is an 18th-century building constructed of marlstone, with an original bread oven.
