Discover Rožnov

Rožnov combines a clearly recognizable landscape with traces of a long local history. Rožnov and its associated district of Neznášov extend across a valley with several hills: Chloumek, Prašivka, Bezděk, and Libina. The Jordán stream also flows through Rožnov. This creates a destination that can be explored through both its landscape and specific historical sites.

Landscape between Rožnov and Neznášov

The valley and the four hills give the area its own distinctive landscape setting. The hills Chloumek, Prašivka, Bezděk, and Libina lie in the valley; the Jordán stream flows through Rožnov.

History that remains visible in Neznášov

Neznášov was first mentioned in 1371. The first written mention of Rožnov dates from July 5, 1387; at that time, Rožnov belonged to the fortress in Rtyně. These two recorded dates show that both the district and Rožnov itself are documented in medieval written sources. Neznášov is therefore the earlier-documented of the two places; in Rožnov’s case, the date includes not only the year but also July 5, 1387.

The history becomes particularly tangible at the Rotemberg site near Neznášov. The medieval Rotemberg Castle was founded and built by Bavor of Neznášov. During archaeological work at the Rotemberk site in 1978, remains of stone and brick walls as well as ceramics from the 14th and 15th centuries were uncovered. For visitors, this means that the focus is not a completely preserved castle structure, but a historical archaeological site where architectural and material traces can be interpreted together.

The Hrad Neznášov/Rotemberk archaeological site historically belonged to Neznášov. What remains are a relief-like remnant of the fortifications and probably the remains of a round tower. This careful distinction between preserved remnants and structures probably attributable to the site is precisely what makes it interesting to visitors who prefer to discover history through concrete traces rather than through a mere date.

Local orientation and activities

Two bus routes intersect in Rožnov: one connects Velichovky with Smiřice, while the other connects Hořiněves with Jaroměř.

A multipurpose sports field is available in Rožnov for a sporting activity. It can be reserved by telephone at 725 194 267 or 602 602 277. Together with the blue-marked hiking trail through Neznášov, this provides a choice between an activity in the town and an exploration of the nearby local landscape. The hiking trail and the sports field also differ geographically: the trail runs through Neznášov, while the field is located within Rožnov.
