Machovská Lhota Between History and Landscape

Machovská Lhota combines local history with routes through the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area. If you are looking for a place where historical traces and varied landscapes come together, the municipality offers several different points of interest. Machovská Lhota is one of four local parts of Machov; the Machov area belongs to the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area. The combination of protected landscape, local history and cross-border routes offers various possibilities for a stay.

Historical Traces in the Village

One of the prominent sites of remembrance is the former Protestant parsonage, dating from 1813, which also served as a prayer house of the Bohemian Brethren. A stone chalice is located on its chimney. The stone chalice complements the historic building with an architectural detail that stands out from the timber-framed wooden houses in the village. During a walk through Machovská Lhota, you can also see beautiful timber-framed wooden houses that are typical of the municipality.

The monument to the victims of the First World War was erected in 1922. It lists 16 residents of Lhota who fell in the war. This places different historical layers close together in the village: a former parsonage, traditional wooden houses and a monument commemorating the fallen by name.

Hiking via Machovská Lhota

The “Vzhůru na Hejšovinu” hiking route runs from Machov through Machovská Lhota, Pod Horou and Pasterka. You then ascend via the yellow and subsequently the red hiking trail to Velká Hejšovina. A rock city and a mountain hut are part of the destination area described there. For route planning, the trail can be divided into the section via Machovská Lhota, Pod Horou and Pasterka, followed by the ascent.

Cycling Route Through Landscapes and Nature Reserves

Machovská Lhota is also a specific waypoint for a cycling tour: Cycling Route No. 4000, “Okruh Stěny,” passes through the village. The route is around 55 km long, runs partly through Poland and, as an international route, leads through nature reserves around mountain ridges. Rock formations and viewpoints lie on both sides of the national border. When planning, therefore, both the approximately 55 km distance and the route across the national border and through the nature reserves are important. The cycling tour thus has a different focus from the hiking route to Velká Hejšovina: here, distance and the border crossing shape the planning, while there the ascent to the destination is the defining factor.

Educational Trail with Bilingual Information

The “Jak se zde dřív žilo” educational trail begins in Machovská Lhota–Nouzín and ends in Ostra Góra in Poland. Three stations with information boards accompany the route; the texts are written in Czech and Polish. For your planning, the educational trail therefore combines local history with a route that leads across the border.
