Discover Rasošky

Rasošky combines a remarkable settlement history with military heritage monuments and routes for actively exploring the surrounding area. The village is therefore a suitable starting point for planning a trip focused not only on a single building, but also on the development of the village and its connections within the region.

A Village with History

Rasošky began to develop in 1781 on the site of the Rossošky forest. The name of this forest already appears in church records from 1546, making it significantly older than the founding of the present-day village. The settlement’s origins are also connected with the construction of Josefov Fortress, which was then called Ples. This connection gives the local history a clear historical framework without limiting Rasošky to a single period.

The village layout also tells the story of its origins: Rasošky was founded around a rectangular village green. This aspect is particularly interesting if you would like to get to know places not only through individual sights, but also through their organically developed structure. Another tradition is the Masopust procession, which is gaining importance in Rasošky every year. Alongside the stone evidence of the past, a living tradition is therefore also part of the local identity.

Military History between Rasošky and Josefov

One of the notable places of remembrance is the old military cemetery dating from 1820–1840. It is designated as an immovable cultural monument, meaning a fixed monument whose significance is tied to its specific location. The Pyramida Monument commemorates the fallen members of the 21st Infantry Regiment in the wars of 1848–1849 and 1866. It is located in the military cemetery in Rasošky.

The Pevnostní hřbitov is also located north of Rasošky. Anyone interested in the region’s military past can mentally connect these places with Josefov without equating the individual monuments with one another. The 1866 Educational Trail passes through Rasošky and connects the village with Josefov, among other places. This creates a historical route connection that extends your stay beyond the immediate village boundaries.

Rasošky as a Starting Point for an Active Trip

Cyclists can also include Rasošky in their plans. Cycle Route 4266 leads from Jaroměř to Rasošky and then continues to Smržov. You can therefore consider the two directions separately: one section leads to Rasošky, while the other continues from the village. When choosing accommodation, it is therefore particularly relevant whether you would like to combine your stay more with historical exploration in Rasošky and Josefov or with a cycling tour on Route 4266.
