Weckelsdorf amid rocky trails and Bohemian history
Weckelsdorf amid rocky trails and Bohemian history
If you choose Weckelsdorf as your destination, you can combine experiences of nature and culture. One particularly striking destination is Teplické skály. They make up the larger part of the Adršpašsko-Teplické skály National Nature Reserve. The Josef Vavroušek educational trail runs through the area as a 6-kilometer blue-marked circular route with 15 stops. The ruins of Střmen Castle provide a viewpoint in Teplické skály.
The history of the buildings also offers specific discoveries. The Renaissance Upper Castle was built in 1599 by Václav Bohdanecký z Hodkova and now houses the town hall. The Baroque Church of St. Lawrence was built in 1724 by Jan Straka z Nedabylic. Its interior preserves original ceiling paintings and richly carved furnishings. In Teplice nad Metují, the Ivanitská poustevna in the town center comprises a pilgrimage church and a paradise garden. It is considered a rare surviving monument to the hermit tradition in Bohemia; the church features remarkable Rococo frescoes.
For an active day by bicycle, cycling route 4036 is available. It is 31 kilometers long and starts and ends in Teplice nad Metují. The route is of medium difficulty and is recommended for mountain bikes or trekking bikes. Teplice nad Metují can be reached from Náchod, Broumov and Trutnov by car, train or bus. This allows you to distinguish between a cycling trip and traveling by various means of transport when planning your visit.
In winter, the Ski Kamenec ski area adds another option. It has two 500-meter-long runs that are groomed daily with a piste groomer and artificially snow-covered. Ski Kamenec also offers a ski school with female and male ski instructors available by arrangement. In addition to the trails through Teplické skály, this means that winter activities are available as a separate focus.
One of the region's special events is the International Mountain Film Festival in Teplice nad Metují. It is a competition festival for professional and amateur films about mountaineering and other sports. The Redpoint Team also organizes sporting events: Every year, it holds more than ten races, including mountain biking, running, duathlon and roller-skiing events. The Rallye Sudety is the Redpoint Team's best-known mountain bike marathon and was first held in 1995.
When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore first decide which experiences should define your stay: the 6-kilometer educational trail, the 31-kilometer cycling loop, historic buildings, a mountain film festival or winter sports at Ski Kamenec. Weckelsdorf is therefore suitable as a starting point for planning a trip that considers nature, culture and sport not just under one theme.
If you would like to compare other places at the same level, you can find Zaloňov, Rasošky, Starkov, Vršovka, Machov, Kramolna, Žďár Nad Metují and Studnice U Náchoda here.
