Teptin: Churches, Mausoleum and Forest Landscape

Teptin combines historic buildings with a heavily wooded, highly varied landscape. The area encompasses the Ringhoffer Mausoleum and the churches in the cadastral area of Těptín, as well as valleys, waterways and ponds in the municipality of Kamenice.

Architecture and History in Těptín and Kamenice

The Ringhoffer Mausoleum was built between 1889 and 1893 to a design by the renowned architect Jiří Stibral. Its forms combine Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Gothic elements. The architecturally and sculpturally valuable building stands in a wooded landscape below Zaječí vrch and is connected to Kamenice Chateau by an avenue. The access arrangements are important for visitors: the mausoleum is closed to the public and can only be viewed through the gate or on special occasions when the gate is opened.

Kamenice Chateau is also currently not open to the public. The building was reconstructed between 1875 and 1880 in the English Neo-Gothic style, replacing the original chateau. The Church of St. Francis of Assisi in Kamenice-Těptín was built in the Early Gothic style. The Church of St. Francis Seraphicus in the cadastral area of Těptín, within the municipality of Kamenice, is an originally Early Gothic church that was remodelled in the Baroque style and contains an Empire-style tomb of Archbishop Salm.

Further smaller monuments add to the historic character. The chapel in the cemetery in Těptín is classified as a chapel monument. In the park southwest of the Church of St. Francis Seraphicus stands a stone cross erected in 1810 at the expense of Archbishop Salm. These individual buildings and memorial sites provide various starting points for cultural walks and discoveries, while not all sights offer the same access or visiting opportunities.

Forests, Valleys and Ponds

Kamenice lies on the edge of the continuous Hornopožárské lesy forest area. The landscape within the municipality is highly varied: characteristic valleys follow the waterways, and there are also numerous ponds, including Štiřínský, Struhařovský, Mlýnský and Dvorský rybník. Almost half of the municipality consists of forest. The surroundings therefore offer a marked contrast to the historic buildings and provide opportunities for spending a day close to nature.
