Máslovice

Máslovice combines nature experiences, an unusual local history and paths along the Vltava. Particularly characteristic is the combination of a nature trail with a viewpoint, the Máslovická stráň nature reserve and a vibrant butter tradition. Nature Trail from Máslovice to the Vltava

The “Naučná stezka a vyhlídka Choč” nature trail begins in Máslovice on the village square in front of the museum and ends at the Vltava ferry. With a detour to the Choč viewpoint, the route extends to 2,700 m. At the viewpoint, you can sit on an original bench. From there, a narrow, steeply descending path leads to a waterside trail that continues to the ferry. This allows the excursion to be experienced as a route between the village square, the viewpoint and the Vltava, without combining the stops into a single attraction.

Nature and an Unusual Museum

The “Máslovická stráň” nature reserve is located within the territory of the municipality of Máslovice. It protects rock outcrops and fragments of a rocky steppe with protected and endangered plant and animal species, as well as meadow and forest habitats. The “Malé máslovické muzeum másla” offers a completely different focus. It is the only museum of its kind in Central Europe and features an interactive exhibition.

Butter as Local History and Tradition

Since 2000, a nativity scene made entirely of butter has traditionally been on display at the “Malé máslovické muzeum másla” during Advent. The subject remains present throughout the year outside the museum as well: Butter churning takes place regularly in spring, usually in April, as part of the hiking event “Máslovická šlápota aneb Šlapeme do Máslovic stloukat máslo”, and in autumn, in September, during the “Posvícenském vinobraní”.

Vltava Ferry and Excursions in Dol

The passenger ferry between Libčice nad Vltavou and Dol near Máslovice is operated by the “Výzkumný ústav včelařský”. If the Vltava discharge exceeds 400 m³/s or in strong winds, the Dol–Libčice passenger ferry is closed to the public. In Dol near Máslovice, the “Výzkumný ústav včelařský” offers, by individual arrangement, group excursions for kindergartens, schools and associations, as well as for children, students and adults; the tour lasts approximately 45 to 60 minutes. The approximate duration gives groups a clear timeframe for this part of the programme. The institute’s shop sells, among other things, mead and honey chocolate.
