Herink combines village history, an informative walk and surprisingly far-reaching archaeological traces. Anyone who wants to get to know a place not only through individual sights but also through its stories will find various points of interest here to include in their travel planning. These include the municipal activity “Máme rádi Herink”, the chapel on Staré návsi, the history of former ponds and the Čistička archaeological site.

Discover Herink on a walk

“Máme rádi Herink” is an entertaining and educational walk through the village. At the stations marked on a map, QR code signs display information, images or maps relating to the respective location. This allows you to explore the area step by step and through a variety of topics. For families, this walk can be a shared discovery activity: you decide for yourselves which stations to examine in greater detail and which stories are especially interesting for your travel group.

The natural history of the area is also part of its character. Lípa u transformátoru in Herink is a protected individual tree; it was first designated as such on January 25, 1983. The tree thus represents a specific, named feature of the local landscape and complements the walk’s historical stops with a natural aspect.

Ponds, the dam and memories of village life

The V topolech pond, also known as Na obci, used to be a meeting place for the entire village. Witches were burned there, people went ice skating in winter, and in summer neighbors gathered around the fire. In suitable weather, young people from the surrounding area went swimming in this pond. These accounts show the different roles a body of water could once play in village life.

The history of the pond landscape also includes Na Hrázi Street. Part of this street was once the dam of the largest of several ponds in Herink. It held back water from the Osnický stream and the surrounding fields. Anyone interested in changes to the landscape can trace here the connection between a present-day place name and the former use of the land.

Chapel and archaeological traces

A chapel was built on Staré návsi in 1908 next to a granite cross. The Herink chapel is considered a worthwhile destination for walks. It adds a visible historical landmark to the route without limiting the visit to a single era.

The history at the ÄŚistiÄŤka archaeological site reaches even further back. During a rescue excavation in the area of the station, settlement traces were discovered within the cadastral area of Herink. The oldest settlement identified there dates from the 6th to 5th century BC. The site also yielded remains of large above-ground wooden structures, pottery fragments and a glass bead. In Tvrzka, earthworks were discovered in the 1930s during maintenance of the stream bed. These finds give the trip additional historical depth and also make Herink interesting for visitors who enjoy learning about early settlements and traces of local landscapes.

Herink as a starting point for travel planning

When looking for a hotel in Herink, you can consider which focus should shape your days: the QR walk with its stations, the chapel and local history, or the archaeological topics surrounding ÄŚistiÄŤka and Tvrzka. Those traveling with children can incorporate the alternation between short information stations, stories about former village life and historical discoveries into their shared daily planning.
