Skryje: Fossils, Church and Nature Trails

The “In the Footsteps of the Trilobite” geological adventure trail begins at the museum in Skryje and ends at the car park by the church in Skryje. The route from the museum to the church gives the excursion a clear direction and arranges the stations around an easily comprehensible theme. Along the way, there are comic-style information panels, climbing elements, viewpoints and viewing holes. It is also possible to find a fossil in the scree above the Skryje Bridge. In this way, the trail combines geological discoveries with various stations in Skryje.

Geological Discoveries in Skryje

Since 1997, the Joachim Barrande Memorial has been housed in a former school building. The former school building brings together local history, archaeological research and its own fossil finds under one roof. The ethnographic exhibition “Life in Skryje” is located on the ground floor. There is also an archaeological exhibition on the research conducted by Prof. Durdík at the nearby Týřov Castle. At the memorial, children can find their own fossilized trilobite. Local history, archaeology and palaeontology thus come together here.

From Skryje, a hiking route leads via the “In the Footsteps of the Trilobite” geological adventure trail to the Týřov National Nature Reserve. The hike can therefore be understood as a progression between the exhibition, trail stations and protected landscape. The route thus connects the village, the adventure trail and a protected natural area. Those interested in the history of the Earth will find in Skryje not only the museum but also a direct connection to the palaeontological themes of the surrounding area.

The Church of the Archangel Michael

The Church of the Archangel Michael is a prominent landmark when viewing Skryje from the north and east. It is a longitudinal Baroque church with rich architectural detailing. At the same time, it is a single-nave, oriented building with a prismatic tower on the western façade. The church thus provides a clear cultural focal point within the village panorama.

Jezírka and the Routes Around Skryje

The Jezírka area contains highly valuable botanical communities with more than 240 species of vascular plants. Preserved forest communities are approaching a natural species composition and include more than 25 tree species. Jezírka also encompasses significant Cambrian palaeontological sites of Skryje-Týřovice.

Cyclists can also include Skryje in their plans: Cycle Route 0048 passes through the village, heads towards the bridge and then continues along the left bank of the Berounka to Roztoky u Křivoklátu. This direction also makes the route easy to understand for rough day planning. The Skryjský luh educational trail is currently not maintained. This information is relevant for distinguishing between the various routes around Skryje.
