Křivoklát: Castle, Educational Trails and Museum

Křivoklát between Castle Culture and Landscape

Křivoklát combines a national cultural monument with educational trails, a cycling tourism route, and surroundings where castles, ruins, mountains, and a hill offer different opportunities for discovery. The town is therefore an interesting choice if you would like to combine culture, information about nature, and trails during one stay.

Castle and Museum as Cultural Highlights

Křivoklát Castle is a national cultural monument. During guided tours of Křivoklát Castle, you will see a Late Gothic castle chapel as well as the Great and Small Knights' Halls. One thematic focus is on the House of Habsburg. The tour therefore combines the castle's distinctive architecture with a clearly defined historical topic.

The Křivoklát Museum is located directly on the Křivoklát castle grounds below the castle. It displays around 150 exhibits. These include the complete range of mass-produced Jawa and ČZ touring motorcycles from the beginning of their production through 1959, models manufactured later, nearly all versions of Jawa automobiles, Praga motorcycles, and Pionýr mopeds. The collection is supplemented by Stadion, Jaweta, and Babeta mopeds as well as other special models. The museum's scope thus ranges from motorcycles and automobiles to smaller motorized vehicles.

Educational Trails, Playground and Views of the Berounka

The recreational and educational area as well as the Křivoklát forest playground can be visited at any time and free of charge. The recreational and educational area and the forest playground feature a rope course, slides, climbing elements, a fire pit, information panels, and a geological exhibition. You will therefore find both activity-oriented features and points of connection to topics relating to nature and the world around us.

The Brdatka educational trail is known for its unique views of the Berounka Valley. It has 17 information panels about the reserve as well as its fauna, flora, and forest. A different focus awaits you on the Křivoklát School Educational Trail. It begins at the primary school in Křivoklát on the left bank of the Berounka and is laid out as a circular route. Eight information panels cover forests, water, woody plants, and animals. After completing the trail, you return to the school.

There is also a documented connection to cycling: the KO8 cycling tourism route passes through Křivoklát.
