Sýkořice – Pěnčina, Hiking Trails and Kabečnice

Sýkořice is particularly interesting for travelers who want to get to know a place through specific routes, landscapes, and small cultural landmarks. The focus is on marked hiking connections, the Berounka as a natural boundary of the area, and traces of nature and history.

Berounka and the Pěnčina Viewpoint

The Berounka forms the western and southwestern boundary of the cadastral area of Sýkořice. The Pěnčina Viewpoint is also located in the cadastral area of Sýkořice and provides a distinctive landmark for hikers. After leaving the yellow-marked hiking trail, a forest path leads directly from Sýkořice to the Pěnčina Viewpoint. This section thus connects a marked trail with a subsequent forest path and a specific destination above the Berounka Valley.

Marked Trails with Different Destinations

A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Zbečno through the northwestern part of Sýkořice to the U hájovny Kaly (Běleč trail junction). This trail is also part of the Říp–Blaník Pilgrimage Route. Those who want to choose a different direction can take a red-marked hiking route from Zbečno toward Beroun. In addition, two hiking trails run through Sýkořice to Jinčov Ruins. The trails therefore differ in their markings, directional orientation, and destinations: the yellow trail leads to the trail junction and is part of the pilgrimage route, the red route heads toward Beroun, while two other connections lead to Jinčov Ruins.

Nature Above the Berounka Valley

In the Kabečnice Nature Reserve, steep rocks and slopes above the Berounka Valley shape the protected natural area. A species-rich, warmth-loving flora grows there, including the critically endangered Lesser Butterfly-orchid. Thus, alongside its marked trails, Sýkořice also offers a nature reserve with a distinctive plant population and clearly pronounced slopes.

Břetislavův dub is a protected individual tree. It was first placed under protection on July 10, 2000.

Chapel, Monument, and Historical Traces

Sýkořice is home to the niche chapel Výklenková kaplička sv. Jana Nepomuckého. The Baroque wayside chapel contains a rusticized Baroque stone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in its niche. Another testimony to the history of the village is the war memorial to those who fell in the First World War. It was made from stones taken from a former quarry behind Skalka. The former quarrying site is thus directly connected with the material used for the monument.

Dřevíč is privately owned and not open to the public. The Dřevíč hunting lodge in the Křivoklátské forests originated as a forester's lodge dating from 1572. Later, the complex was converted into a small two-story Baroque hunting château belonging to the Fürstenbergs. This site therefore brings together an earlier forestry use and its later form as a hunting château, while access is restricted today.
