Otvovice: Rocks, Culture and Family Experiences
Otvovice combines a striking natural monument with regional history, cultural offerings and opportunities for a varied stay. The focal point is Otvovická skála: The rocky outcrop rises about 60 metres above the valley, and the summit can be reached via a relatively easy-to-walk path. From the top, you can enjoy a view of Otvovice. Thus, even with a single landscape experience, the town has a clear profile between nature observation and a walk.
A natural experience with a geological feature
Otvovická skála is also a natural monument. It includes a species-rich habitat of rocky and loess steppes with a significant geological outcrop. The site is therefore not merely a viewpoint, but combines landscape and geological history in a confined area. If you value nature experiences when choosing your place to stay, this feature is an important part of Otvovice’s character.
The wider surrounding region also offers various types of landscape. In the wider regional area around Otvovice are Střelecký ostrov, Velké Benátky and Slovanský ostrov, each of them an island. Na Habří [Velké Přílepy] is located in the vicinity of Otvovice; it is a hill. These destinations represent a different perspective on the landscape than the rocky outcrop and complement the nature theme with island and hill landscapes.
Chapel, glassworks and cultural history
The history of the town includes the Chapel of Saint Procopius in Otvovice. It was built in 1846 in the Gothic style and is considered unique in the wider surrounding area. Another historical reference is the Dubodol glassworks, founded in 1815 in the Otvovice valley near the mines. Both sites illustrate different aspects of the past: sacred architectural history and industrial development in the valley.
The surroundings of Otvovice also include Zámek Ostrov, a château, and Stará kanalizační čistírna Praha-Bubeneč, a museum. In the wider regional area around Otvovice are Letohrádek královny Anny, a château, and Galerie Rudolfinum, a museum. The cultural spectrum therefore ranges from regional historic buildings to museums.
Swimming pool, events and Czech cuisine
Otvovice swimming pool was built in the 1970s as part of a sports complex. At present, two of the three original pools are in operation. The swimming pool complex also includes a children’s playground. For families who want to include water-based activities alongside nature and culture during their trip, this specific site is therefore a separate focus when planning their day.
The amphitheatre in Otvovice was built to host a wide variety of cultural events. It is intended for different music styles, theatre, open-air cinema as well as other arts and entertainment offerings. The Otvovický pochod III. is intended for all age groups. Formanka Otvovice represents the regional cuisine, preparing traditional Czech dishes.
