Discover Osečany: Castle History, Park and Observation Tower
Osečany is a destination for you if you would like to combine Czech castle history with a park landscape and a distinctive observation tower. The focus is on Osečany Castle, the park below the castle, the Drahoušek observation tower and two sports-oriented events. This allows you to discover the place through architectural history, garden spaces and active activities, without any one of these themes replacing the others.
Castle History in Osečany
Around 1680, the Renaissance fortress of Osečany Castle was expanded into a three-winged chateau. This makes the architectural development of the place particularly vivid for you: the history of Osečany Castle includes both the former fortress and the later chateau complex. Around 1733, a chapel was established in the south wing under Count Bubna of Litice; the construction of the chateau was probably completed at that point.
The cellars and the remains of a round tower have been preserved at Osečany Castle. These structural elements give the castle’s history a concrete, tangible dimension. You therefore encounter not only a historical designation there, but also surviving parts of the building. If you choose cultural destinations according to tangible traces of their past, these remains are among the defining details of Osečany.
Park, Parterre and Views
The park below Osečany Castle was laid out by the Counts of Lanius. Osečany Park covered five hectares, and a pond west of Osečany Castle is part of the park. Thus, the history of the castle extends beyond the walls into a clearly described garden area. For your orientation, the historic architecture is connected here with an independent park space whose size and pond provide a concrete impression of its layout.
The sights of Osečany Castle also include a renovated Renaissance parterre. A parterre is a formally designed garden area; in Osečany, it points to the artistic gardening aspect of the castle surroundings. The Drahoušek observation tower stands on a 504-metre-high hill above Osečany. If you would like to weigh cultural history and a viewpoint against each other for your trip, you will find two clearly different points of interest within the place here.
Cycling Tour and Running Event
Osečanská šlapka is an individually organised recreational cycling tour in its 23rd edition, organised by Osečany and Fidibus z.s. Osečanská běhna is a running event in its second edition. Both formats expand the picture of Osečany with organised activities that are clearly distinct from the castle and park history. This allows you to experience the place according to your interests through culture, gardens, views or sporting events.
