Štětkovice – Quarry, Castle and Cycling Route

Štětkovice is a suitable starting point if you would like to combine nature, special excursion destinations and regional history. The area is considered peaceful and green; several ponds, a quarry, a Baroque castle and well-developed cycling connections give the surroundings a variety of aspects. This allows you to shape your stay around landscapes, cultural and historical discoveries and active pursuits, without limiting yourself to just one type of excursion.

A Green Local Character and Bořená Hora

Štětkovice is characterized by abundant greenery, several ponds and a quarry. Bořená Hora near Štětkovice is particularly distinctive: the flooded quarry has rock walls up to 8 metres high, formed from Sedlčany-type granodiorite. This reveals a geological feature that distinguishes the area from an ordinary pond or woodland landscape. If you are interested in unusual landforms, this quarry is a destination in its own right.

An Unusual Destination for Diving Enthusiasts

The wreck of an Mi-8 helicopter lies in the Bořená Hora quarry. It is the quarry’s main diving attraction and gives this excursion destination an unusual historical and technical dimension. Here you will find not only rock walls and water, but also a distinctive object beneath the surface.

Park Drama věků and Spiritual Stations

The Park Drama věků offers another facet. It features sports elements, a children’s climbing area and 12 spiritual stations. This combination appeals to different interests within a family: exercise, an activity for children and a quieter approach to spiritual topics can all be found side by side in the same park. The site thus complements Štětkovice’s natural attractions with a destination that is not focused solely on landscapes or sport.

Baroque History in the Townscape

The Baroque Château of Štětkovice was built in the first half of the 18th century on the site of an earlier fortress. Its history therefore extends beyond the Baroque construction phase and points to an older fortification in the same location. There is also a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk near the chapel in Štětkovice. Together with the château, such individual architectural and artistic monuments give your tour of the area a clear cultural and historical context.

Connections by Train, Bus and Bicycle

Several connections are relevant for getting around the region. Regional railway line 223 connects Sedlčany and Olbramovice and runs through Štětkovice. Bus line D80 connects Sedlčany, Štětkovice, Prosenická Lhota and Křečovice. Cycling route 8132 passes through Štětkovice, Luhy and Prosenická Lhota; in Štětkovice, it crosses route 11. The Modelářský domek is also located in the centre of Štětkovice. You can therefore focus your further research on your preferred interests: nature, culture, cycling or a combination of several places.
