Odolena Voda: Culture, Nature and Cycling Routes in Czechia

Odolena Voda can be explored from three perspectives: through Baroque and literary culture, protected landscapes, and routes for walks and cycling tours. There are also ponds and a natural bathing area. Baroque and Literary Traces

The Baroque Church of Saint Clement was built by the Jesuit order between 1732 and 1735 on the site of an older church. It contains expressive paintings by the Jesuit Jan Kuben and is listed in Odolena Voda as an immovable cultural monument. Its architectural history, paintings, and heritage protection give this religious building a clear cultural profile.

The town's history also includes several notable individual monuments. Hálkovna is the house where Vítězslav Hálek was born on 5 April 1835. The Marian column on the town square dates from 1706. The Renaissance fortress of Odolena Voda was converted into a Baroque chateau; the chateau preserves Renaissance vaults and Baroque furnishings. In the district of Dolínek, the birthplace of the Czech poet and prose writer Vítězslav Hálek houses an exhibition of documents and visual material about his life and work. Around 200 gravestones have been preserved in the Jewish cemetery.

Protected Landscapes and Water

Nature appears in a variety of forms. The Vršky pod Špičákem Nature Reserve protects extensive valuable dry grasslands as well as acidophilic, meaning acid-loving, vegetation consisting of succulents and ephemerals. Dry grassland vegetation grows on the former volcanic hill of Čenkov, providing refuge for numerous protected and endangered plant and animal species. This gives you two distinct nature themes: unique plant communities and a habitat with protected species.

Water also shapes the selection. The Korycanský stream and the Čenkovské ponds comprise a system of three ponds; the stream rises in the Dolínek area. Jordán is a natural bathing area at a shallow pond with a reinforced dam. The two descriptions represent different water experiences, ranging from a pond landscape to a bathing area.

Circular Walk and Cycling Route

There are clearly distinct routes for planning an active day. In Odolena Voda, there is a 4.95-kilometre circular route around Vodolka. A 25-kilometre, white-marked cycling route begins at Horní náměstí in Odolena Voda. The different route lengths help you organise the focus of your trip as desired. In addition, Fajglovka is a combined walking and cycling path between the Aero Vodochody area and Odolena Voda.
