Škvorec: Castle, Church and Višnovka Nature Park

Škvorec combines impressive architectural history with nature and active pursuits that can be arranged into a variety of travel plans. At its heart is the extensive castle complex: it stretches from the northwestern part of the municipality to its center. The two main buildings, known as the Old Castle and the New Castle, form the western side of the large Lower Square opposite the Church of Saint Anne.

Castle Complex and the History of Škvorec

The protected castle complex includes the so-called Old Castle, the so-called New Castle, the former farmyard, the enclosing wall with gates, the castle park and the grounds of the enclosed area. The designation “former farmyard” preserves the historical classification of this part of the complex. The New Castle is a single-storey, elongated building with a thirteen-axis wing and an adjoining chapel. A broad connecting section links it to the corner of the Old Castle.

The Church of Saint Anne also contributes to the historic character of the town. The late Baroque church was built between 1759 and 1767 and adjoins a cemetery with a cemetery chapel or mortuary. It is listed in the Czech Central Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments under number 36016/2–2170. December 13, 1497 is also significant in the town’s history: on that day, Jan Škvorecký z Klinštejna received a privilege from King Vladislaus II of Bohemia and Hungary that elevated Škvorec to a market town and permitted weekly markets every Friday.

Nature, Trails and Different Ideas for Excursions

Another aspect of the surrounding area is represented by Višnovka Nature Park. It was created from a historic orchard. Alongside the castle complex, this introduces a landscape-focused theme whose origins lie not in courtly architecture but in the former use of the site.

The Hmyzí Trail runs through the area of the host municipality from Třebohostice to Zlatá and back. The route is approximately 3 km long and includes 10 stations. This provides a clearly defined way to combine nature-related themes with a manageable walking distance. Another distinctive landscape feature is the former, now flooded Lom Na plachtě quarry near Třebohostice. It is protected as a natural monument covering an area of 0.7918 ha. Since 1990, the Lom Na plachtě natural monument near Třebohostice has protected granite outcrops with flooded extraction pits.

If you would like to focus on physical activity, you can join cycle paths from Škvorec in the direction of Úvaly. The paved paths are also suitable for inline skating. This places cultural and historical attractions, a route with ten stations and paved paths alongside one another for different types of day planning, without requiring you to commit to just one way of exploring.

Religious Tradition in Škvorec

A Svatoanenská pouť announced in Škvorec for the Feast of Saint Anne began with a Mass at the Church of Saint Anne. A pilgrimage celebration was then scheduled to take place at the U Zálabských inn.
