Řež – Science, River and Unusual Paths

Řež combines scientific history, a distinctive riverside landscape and paths offering unusual insights. Here you can see historic radiation-measuring instruments, learn about the development of radiopharmaceuticals, explore an educational trail through a natural area that was previously largely fenced off, and look out over the flowing Vltava. Science and History to Discover

At the ÚJV Řež Nuclear Museum, you can see historic radiation-measuring instruments and an extensive, long-assembled collection of dosimeters. The museum also explains the development of radiopharmaceuticals and the methods used to process radioactive waste. For visitors interested in research, technology and the history of scientific work, the appeal lies both in the specific exhibits and in the topics behind them.

Another unusual experience is provided by the Prof. Čestmír Šimáně Educational Trail. Its information panels cover the history of the research institute, the organizations based there, and their work and research. At the same time, the trail opens up part of a natural area that was previously largely fenced off to the public. The route includes remnants of the old perimeter fence and one-man bunkers that served as protection for guards during an attack. Natural surroundings, research history and visible traces of former security measures meet here directly.

Vltava, Park and Riverbank

U Pasáčka Park focuses attention on the waterside landscape: from there, you can see the opposite bank and the flowing Vltava. The park is also home to a regional biocentre. As an important point on the Zelený okruh jaderným údolím, U Pasáčka is also one of the places where the scenic side of Řež is particularly clear.

The Chapel of St. Wenceslas also leads to a different chapter of the village’s history. It stands in Řež on the bank of a river and was built in gratitude for the end of the Second World War. It thus complements the technology-focused themes of the Nuclear Museum and the educational trail with a place of remembrance.

Getting There by Train, Bus and Ferry

Řež can be reached by train from Praha Bubny station in the direction of Kralupy nad Vltavou. Another option is the bus from Praha-Kobylisy, a station on Metro Line C, to the Husinec, Řež, závod stop. You can also combine your journey with a trip on the water: the Úholičky–Husinec–Řež ferry connects the municipalities of Úholičky and Husinec–Řež by boat.
