Libovice: Hiking Trails, Landscape and Local History

Libovice lies on the edge of Džbán Nature Park and has traditionally been shaped by agriculture and forestry. If you are looking for a place for your trip with landscapes, regional history and a variety of discoveries, you will find several distinct points of interest here – from a marked hiking trail to historical traces in the terrain.

Hiking to Dívčí skála

The yellow-marked hiking trail leads through Libovice and onward to the U Jána trail junction. Another local point of reference in the landscape is Dívčí skála, the remnant of a sandstone rock formation roughly halfway between Sv. Jana and Kvílice. Those who want to combine a hike with a specific destination will find a distinctive landscape landmark here. The municipality of Libovice regularly organizes a traditional New Year's hike to Dívčí skála. The yellow-marked trail gives the hike a clear route, while U Jána serves as a specific point of orientation along the way.

Park and Landscape in the Surrounding Area

Jedlý Park is a 1.69-hectare park with additional play and educational features, a workout area, and furniture for recreation and relaxation. It thus complements the natural attractions with a landscaped place offering various elements for exercise, discovery and a break. The combination of play, education, workouts and relaxation creates different focal points within a single visit. Zelený vrch is the highest point in Kejkol Forest and forms another distinctive name in the vicinity of Libovice.

Discover Libovice's History

One station on the Libovická Trail is titled “Coal Mining in Libovice” and deals with coal mining in Libovice. Several references to the past can also be found near Osada Necky: two cellars and minor traces of foundation walls remain from the former settlement. The Osada Necky station also records the popular tradition that a settlement called Necky stood there before the Thirty Years' War. At a depth of around 11 meters, residents of Necky came across coal while deepening a well. At the spring near Necky, traces of the three former pond dams with culverts are still preserved.

Chapels, Memorial Sites and a Vanished Little Chateau

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk was built in 1837. The Red Cross above Libovice commemorates a Russian general who was seriously wounded and died there during the Napoleonic Wars. Another story concerns the Beyerovka Little Chateau: it was completed in 1867 in the romantic Tudor Gothic style. In 1964, the municipality received permission to demolish the Beyerovka Little Chateau; afterward, only a pile of stones remained of the building. The Beyerovka Little Chateau thus represents two clearly different states of the same building: its completion in the romantic Tudor Gothic style and the later pile of stones.
