Jarpice – Cultural Monuments, Chapels and Landscape

In Jarpice, a landscape crossed by streams meets an unusually dense succession of historic buildings. If you would like to combine culture and nature on your trip, you will find distinctive chapels, an important pilgrimage church, a Renaissance granary, as well as paths and landscape spaces that characterize the area.

Chapels and Historic Buildings

In the Budenice district of Jarpice stands the Kinsky burial chapel complex, a remarkably valuable example of funerary architecture by the Viennese architect Heinrich Koch. At its center is a chapel with a cruciform ground plan, vaulted by a dome over the crossing. The protected complex also includes an enclosing wall with two gates, a statue of an angel, an allegorical statue of a woman, a park and the associated plots of land.

Also in Budenice is the important pilgrimage church Kostel sv. Isidora, built in 1680–1682 and featuring valuable sculptural decoration. The single-nave, oriented building has an oval central space on a Greek-cross ground plan. Its early Baroque ceremonial portal with a volute gable is complemented by sculptures by J. J. Bendl. By contrast, Kaple sv. Isidora stands on the village green of Jarpice on the road to Horní Kamenice and has been listed as a cultural monument since 1958.

A smaller but distinctive feature is Kaple sv. Jana Nepomuckého. The small Baroque central-plan building dates from around the 18th century and stands in a meadow on the road to Vyšínek. The historic building stock also includes the Sýpka, a two-storey stone granary of Renaissance origin, recorded as an immovable cultural monument. Baroque wooden structures have been preserved inside it; parts of the façades retain historic layers of plaster with Renaissance sgraffito and Baroque plasterwork.

Depression, Streams and Distinctive Landscape Features

Jarpice lies in a depression through which the Vranský and Pálečský streams flow. Steeper slopes define this landscape and give the area a clearly recognizable topographic form. South of the Jarpice settlement, two lime trees designated as natural monuments stand in a field. Along the road, a chestnut avenue also runs along the southeastern boundary of the cadastral area. These different landscape features complement the historic features of the settlement with impressions beyond its buildings.

Hiking, Cycling and Transport Links

Current sports and leisure activities in Jarpice focus on hiking and cycling. This allows you to explore the cultural sites and landscape in different ways, without reducing the area to a single type of excursion. For getting there, it is important to note that Jarpice is fully accessible by road traffic. There is neither a railway line nor a railway station within the municipality. If you are planning your trip by train, you should take this distinction into account when choosing your starting point.
