Castles and churches with stories of their own

The ruins of Kamýk Castle (Vrškamýk, Hunec) have visitor facilities and an information trail. The building foundations were archaeologically examined and stabilized in 2009 and 2010. The former castle once served as a summer residence for the earliest Bohemian rulers. During the Renaissance, the complex was extensively rebuilt and received sgraffito decoration and characteristic vaults. The portals, Gothic plaster and vaults draw attention to the different phases of the complex.

The Jewish cemetery in the cadastral area of Dražkov served the Jewish communities of Dražkov and Kamýk nad Vltavou. It preserves approximately 300 Baroque and Neoclassical gravestones as well as a historic mortuary. The first pillars of the Kamýcký Bridge were built in 1887; an iron structure was then installed on them. As part of the Vltavská čára line of defense, a total of 64 objects were built here within a very short period of time.

Festivals, cycle routes and a circular hike

Kamýcké prášení is an annual historical festival dedicated to preserving the old customs and traditions of Kamýk nad Vltavou, regularly held at the end of August or the beginning of September. It includes a historical procession through the town and contemporary performances near Vrškamýk Castle.

For cyclists, EuroVelo 7 passes through Kamýk nad Vltavou; the Vltavská cycling trail also runs as a designated stage from Kamýk nad Vltavou to Prague. Those looking for a circular hike can take the “Between the Kamýk and Orlík Reservoirs” route, which starts and ends in Kamýk nad Vltavou. The three forms differ in character and pace: The festival connects local history with a fixed period, the cycle routes lead through the town or beyond it, and the circular hike returns to its starting point.
