Vranovice between the Brdy forests, cycling routes and history

Vranovice is a destination for you if you would like to combine experiences in nature with traces of history. Cycling through the landscape

Cycling Route 2273 offers particularly clear orientation: it runs for 20.2 km from Trokavec to Vranovice. Those who wish to focus their stay on cycling will also find the Brdy an ideal scenic setting for further excursions. Walks and hikes are likewise among the activities made possible by the location in this forest complex.

Vranovice lies on the road between Příbram and Rožmitál pod Třemšínem.

Castle ruins with different traces

One of the special cultural attractions is the Melichárek castle ruin. Here, a castle ruin refers to the surviving traces of a former fortified site. Melichárek is an immovable cultural monument with archaeological traces of such a site. The medieval castle ruin dates from the 13th to the 15th century. Only the central mound remains; the ditches have since been filled in. This distinction is precisely what makes the site interesting: you will not see a fully preserved castle, but rather a landscape trace whose significance emerges from the remaining forms and its history.

The Vranovická hůrka castle ruin differs noticeably from it through its location. It lies on a slightly wooded hill amid the fields, approximately 500 m northwest of the edge of Vranovice. The low perimeter banks are best seen from the north. For your exploration, this means a different kind of historical discovery than at the central mound of Melichárek: here, the recognizable terrain structure of the hill takes center stage.

Local history by the water and in the chapel

Smaller but memorable details can also be found in the village itself. The public swimming pool was originally a fire-water reservoir and was ceremonially opened to the public in 1975. A stone mill wheel was also installed as a memento on the swimming pool dam. Both features connect the history of the village with its visible present without needing to be presented as major attractions.

The chapel contains a Baroque statue of Saint Anne from the late 18th century. Together with the castle ruins, it forms a cultural picture spanning different periods: archaeological traces of medieval fortifications, a Baroque work of art and mementos from the more recent history of the village. If you would like to combine different interests for your family, you can bring nature, cycling and these small discoveries together in a varied stay without limiting the village to just one theme.
