Lazsko between history and nature

Lazsko combines impressive places of remembrance with water-based experiences and a landscape that can be explored at a leisurely pace. This creates a destination where historical themes, excursions and relaxation exist side by side. The history of the place dates back a long way: Lazsko is mentioned as early as 1336 in a document issued by John of Luxembourg. The village mentioned at that time belonged to fiefs whose holders were obliged to protect the royal Kamýk Castle. The historical span ranges from the medieval connection to Kamýk Castle and the Hallstatt-period finds to the more recent culture of remembrance associated with the Vojna Memorial. This allows visitors to connect different historical layers rather than viewing Lazsko merely as a single excursion destination with one particular theme.

Vojna Memorial: a special place of remembrance

The Vojna Memorial is located on the boundary of the cadastral territories of Lazsko, Lešetice and Zavržice. The authentically preserved prison complex is considered unique of its kind in Central Europe. The publicly accessible complex includes the camp commandant's building, the so-called bunker, Accommodation Building G, the detention facility, the unheated concrete room, the cultural centre and the former prison infirmary.

Following extensive reconstruction, the Vojna Memorial was opened to the public in 2005. It houses a museum exhibition about the victims of communism. The site conveys history not only through an exhibition, but also through the preserved buildings of the former prison complex.

Archaeological and historical traces

Lazsko's more distant past can also be experienced. During a rescue excavation conducted by the Archaeological Institute in Prague, 21 cremation graves were discovered in 1957 at the Hallstatt-period cremation burial ground in Lazsko. Those interested in the development of the area will also find the historic site of Lety u Písku, the Memorial to the Holocaust of the Roma and Sinti in Bohemia, in the wider regional surroundings.

Stříbrný Pond and excursions into the landscape

Stříbrný Pond is an excursion destination in Lazsko and can be reached on foot, by bicycle, bus or car. The Stříbrný vrch viewpoint is used for daily recreation by residents of the municipality and people from the wider surrounding area. This creates a clear alternation between views, time spent by the water and active travel when planning your day.
