Hýskov on the Berounka: Discover nature, trails and culture

Hýskov combines the landscape of the Berounka with short discoveries on foot, regional history and vibrant village culture. The village lies in the Berounka Valley on the left bank of the river, surrounded by a wooded landscape. This gives Hýskov a range of options for your stay: nature by the river, educational trails, culture and cycling can all be planned as separate focuses.

Berounka landscape and educational park

One special place in Hýskov is the educational park. It replaced a former landfill and opened in 2015. Today, the park offers a place to rest, beautiful views of Hýskov and pleasant surroundings for spending leisure time in nature. A path lined with trees, plants and herbs is complemented by information panels about the local nature. This creates a manageable natural area where you can not only observe the surroundings but also learn about them through specific information.

Educational trail with two loops

The “Getting to Know Hýskov” educational trail consists of two independent loops that begin in the village square. The route presents Hýskov’s history and legends, explains the meanings of local field names and leads to natural sights in the municipality. When planning a group outing, distinguishing between the two loops is useful: you can start from the same point while discovering different aspects of the municipality.

František Nepil and the cultural centre

The birthplace of František Nepil was restored and opened in 2015 as the Hýskov Association and Information Centre. The centre houses a permanent exhibition featuring works by František Nepil, preserved memorabilia, readings and information about him. It is also used by the public for cultural events and exhibitions. In addition to its nature trails, Hýskov therefore has a clear cultural focal point where the connection between the place and the individual becomes visible.

Footbridge, cycle path and historic connection

In Hýskov, a footbridge connects the two banks of the Berounka. The cycle path from Nižbor to Beroun also runs through here. In the Middle Ages, the Královská cesta led from Karlštejn Castle towards Křivoklát through Hýskov. These historic and present-day routes represent the different ways in which the village can be explored: as a riverside village, a stop for cyclists and part of an older connection between important Bohemian castles.

A special event in the village

Hýskov hosts the recurring night event “Noční soutěž mladých hasičů”. This is a nighttime firefighting competition for children and young people. When looking for accommodation in Hýskov, you can therefore decide in advance whether nature, the educational trails, culture or an event should be the main focus of your stay.
