Olešná: Village Heritage Zone and Hiking Experiences

Olešná combines a protected village heritage area with unusual traces of the railway and a landscape where hiking and rural land use remain visible. Four linden trees stand around the local bell tower; they were planted in 1848 to commemorate the abolition of forced labor and have been designated as protected memorial trees since 2009. The listed Novákův statek complex is also located in the landscape of the central Brdy, on an old Bohemian village meadow. Novákův statek adds another historical focal point to the landscape of the central Brdy.

Traces of the Stroussberg Railway

In the Olešná area, there is a 1.5 km-long forest section of the disused Stroussberg Railway, one of the best-preserved sections of the line. Clearly recognizable depressions left by sleepers have survived in this forest section; they attest to its operational use between 1871 and 1875. This makes it possible to combine a walk through the landscape with a specific chapter of regional transport history. The 1.5 kilometers provide the preserved section with a clear spatial framework, while the depressions make its former use directly visible in the terrain.

The 17 km-long “Za podbrdskými roubenkami” hiking route leads to Olešná and its village heritage zone. The route is rated at difficulty level 5/5. Large sections run along unmarked paths and require good orientation in the terrain. If you compare your activities, the route therefore offers a considerably more demanding option than a visit focused on the village green, buildings, or railway remains.
