Hospozín – Culture, Water and Townscape

Hospozín reveals its character through the interplay of sport, waterways and its historic townscape. The red chimney of the former sugar factory, the local pond and several buildings bearing dates provide different points of interest for planning your trip. Water, Sport and Getting There

The tennis courts in Hospozín are open from 4 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays. For weekdays, booking two days in advance is required; for weekends, booking is required by Friday at the latest. The Vranský Stream, with its designated flood zone, flows into the local pond and then continues through the centre of Hospozín towards Černuc.

Buses operated by ICOM run towards Velvary and Slaný. Kmetiněves railway station is located about half a kilometre from Hospozín and lies on the Roudnice nad Labem–Zlonice railway line. From there, Hospozín can be reached by train or bus. This means that when choosing your accommodation, you can also take your preferred way of getting there into account as a separate criterion.

Historic Townscape

The manor house in the grounds of the agricultural estate is a two-storey rectangular building constructed after 1836. It is privately owned, used for residential purposes and not open to the public. The red chimney with a white stripe from the former sugar factory is regarded as a landmark of Hospozín.

The early Baroque granary is a two-storey building with a rectangular floor plan and a hipped roof; its original timber construction has been preserved. The façades feature inscribed cartouches bearing the year 1673, while the year 1709 is carved into the door. Above the main entrance is a richly decorated supraporte bearing the coat of arms of the owners of the estate, the Kinský family. Another granary is a two-storey stone building with a rectangular floor plan and a gabled roof, constructed as a Baroque replacement building in the second half of the 18th century.

Churches, Chapels and Monuments

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk has a stone portal bearing the coat of arms of Anna Polyxena z Clary a Adringen and the year 1711. The Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist was built in 1595 on the site of an earlier building and forms part of an area with archaeological finds. The niche chapel with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk takes the form of a richly decorated volute column with a niche containing the statue; it can be dated to shortly after 1750.

Smaller monuments also contribute to the townscape. The unusually designed sandstone group of Saints Peter and Paul bears the year 1776 on the front of its pedestal. The stone cross is a finely crafted work of the late Rococo period. In Hospozín, you will therefore encounter various forms of sacred and historic design, from church architecture to individual architectural details.
