Kamenné Žehrovice between Wetlands and Village History

Kamenné Žehrovice combines protected landscapes with a remarkable village history. The Záplavy Nature Reserve covers areas in the cadastral territory of Kamenné Žehrovice. It is an important breeding ground and a significant stopover during bird migration for waterbirds and wetland birds. During the spring and autumn migrations, kingfishers, great egrets and hoopoes can be observed there. The Povodí středního Kačáku – Drvotova stezka educational trail runs mainly along well-maintained paths, but partly also along forest trails. It is marked with the usual green-and-white markings for educational trails. Local History and Notable Buildings

On the road towards Žilina stands a state-protected farmstead dating from the 17th century. It complements the natural experiences with a concrete example of rural architecture and local history. Dělnický dům is also part of the historical identity of Kamenné Žehrovice: during the period between the two world wars, it was a centre of social life in the village.

The reconstructed Dělnický dům now has a modernly equipped gymnasium and a multi-purpose outdoor court. The Jména Panny Marie Chapel also stands out as a notable building on the village square and is suitable for a short stop. At the same time, it is a popular venue for civil and church weddings. It is claimed that the local Žehrovák sandstone was used in the construction of Charles Bridge, St. Vitus Cathedral and the National Theatre.
