Páleč: Stream Landscape and Traces of History

Páleč lies in the valley of the Pálečský potok stream. The stream rises at the western boundary of the municipality, flows eastwards through the municipal area to Jarpice and there joins the Vranský potok. Its floodplain features riparian vegetation. Thus, Páleč brings together a clearly recognizable landscape form and historical evidence – an interesting combination for anyone who wants to combine culture and excursions while travelling through the Czech Republic.

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is at the centre of the village’s history. It was built between 1333 and 1338 under Jan IV. z Dražic and was already a parish church in 1384. The building has a single nave and features a polygonal chancel and a western tower. The coat of arms of Bishop Jan IV. z Dražic is carved above the side entrance. The sacristy contains a Gothic octagonal baptismal font made of pink opuka stone. It is precisely the combination of architectural history, preserved details and regional names that makes the church a worthwhile subject for a shared cultural discovery.

Traces of the Fortress and Štěpán z Pálče

The remains and ramparts of the former fortress of Páleč are still visible on the Na hrádku or Hrad hill. Another historical connection leads to Štěpán z Pálče: he was born at the fortress in Velká Páleč in the late 1360s and became rector of the university in 1400. Páleč therefore offers not just a single historical monument, but several starting points for exploring its past.

The Stream, Floodplain and Orientation within the Village

The course of the Pálečský potok helps to organize the landscape around the village conceptually: from its source at the western municipal boundary, the watercourse runs eastwards to Jarpice. The location at the intersection of two third-class roads is also relevant for finding your way when arriving. Those who would like to combine their stay with a regional outing therefore have a concrete starting point for further planning without losing sight of the village’s history.

Museum and Regional Excursion Routes

Páleč is home to the Muzeum historických náklaďáků. Historické náklaďáky is a private collection of commercial vehicles belonging to the Slezák family. Personal visits to the vehicle collection can be arranged in advance via Facebook. This adds a distinctly different focus to the village’s historical themes.

A local excursion route leads from Páleč via Vraný, Peruc and Vrbičany back to Páleč. A second route runs via Vyšínek, Zlonice, Šlapanice, Mšené Lázně, Budyně nad Ohří, Mšené Lázně again, Ředhošť, Lukov and Horní Kamenice back to Páleč.
