Discover Líský: Views, Nature and Culture in Džbán
Líský lies in Džbán Nature Park and combines a distinctive observation tower with protected habitats, rare orchids and Královka, a spring with a chapel and a legend.
Panoramic views from Rozhledna Líský
Rozhledna Líský is a 38-metre-high steel tower. The viewing platform is 25 metres above the ground and can be reached via 141 steps. From the top, the view stretches across the Kladensko, Louny, Rakovnicko and part of the České středohoří. From the centre of the village, a marked path leads to Rozhledna Líský, which is about 700 metres away. When planning a visit on foot, you can treat the marked path and the 141 steps as two separate sections. This means the trip combines a manageable approach with a viewpoint whose height allows the view to extend far across the surrounding area. The 25 metres to the platform and the 141 steps describe different aspects of the ascent: the platform represents the viewing height, while the number of steps represents the route to it.
Protected landscape and rare orchids
The natural character of Líský includes the Vápnomilný bor u Líského area. It protects calcareous forest-steppe pine forests. A relatively large and viable population of the small orchid smrkovník plazivý (Goodyera repens) also occurs here. Rare specimens of the purple orchid (vstavač nachový), a European woodland orchid, grow on Líská stráň. A visit around mid-May is recommended for observing these orchids. Líská stráň is home to a different orchid from the one in Vápnomilný bor: the purple orchid grows here, while smrkovník plazivý grows there.
Královka near Líský
Studánka Královka and its chapel are located in a birch grove on a hill several hundred metres north of Líský. The Královka Chapel above the spring is registered as an immovable cultural monument. Studánka also has a legend associated with it: Eliška Přemyslovna is said to have hidden the keys to the Bohemian Crown Jewels there while fleeing from her husband. Her flight from her husband provides the narrative occasion for the legend. The birch grove, spring, chapel and the story told about them give this destination its own character alongside the landscape views and orchid habitats.
Travel-planning information
Bus route 589 connects Kvílice, Hořešovice, Líský and Louny. The Natura 2000 European site Vápnomilný bor u Líského bears the designation CZ0210726; it was first designated on 3 November 2009 and covers 4.0755 hectares. The precise area adds to the picture of a place where views, botanical features and designated natural areas come together. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between different focuses: a visit to the tower, observing the orchids around mid-May, or the cultural and historical destination at Královka.
