Kyšice – Local History, Nature and Active Days

Kyšice combines a distinctive local history with gently rolling landscapes on the western edge of the Prague Plateau. Between the chapel, village square, pond and wooded valley, you will find a variety of reasons to explore the area. Culture enthusiasts can discover memorial sites and historic buildings, while cyclists and walkers will find several routes and landscapes to shape their own day.

Historic Landmarks in the Village

St. Florian’s Chapel is a landmark of Kyšice and was built in 1863 using municipal funds. On the village square, a monument commemorates the inhabitants of Kyšice who fell in the First World War (1914–1918), as well as the victims of the German occupation of Bohemia during the Second World War (1939–1945). A cross on a sandstone pedestal dating from 1888 also stands on the village square near the chapel. Above Kyšice, on the road to Braškov, there is a wayside shrine dating from 1897.

The Sokolovna is also part of the local history. It was built in 1924–1925 from contributions and donations by local residents and served for many years as the centre of sporting and cultural life in Kyšice. Today, the small hall can be reserved for fitness training, dancing, yoga and table tennis with three tables. The Sokolovna’s multipurpose outdoor court can be reserved for tennis, nohejbal, volleyball, small-sided football and basketball.

Landscape Between the Pond and Protected Area

Kyšice lies at the transition between the Kladno Tableland and the Lány Hills. South of the village, the Kačák Stream, also known as the Loděnice, flows through a wooded valley. On the edge of the village lies Parkán Pond, which covers approximately 70 ares. The Kyšice–Kobyla Site of Community Importance is also of interest to nature lovers. It covers 20.3731 hectares and serves to protect the great crested newt (Triturus cristatus). The Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area begins about 4 km from Kyšice.

Cycling, Events and Sauna

For exploring on foot or by bicycle, there is a cycle and pedestrian path between Kyšice and Unhošť, newly built in 2009. It is intended for pedestrians and cyclists and is frequently used by local residents. Marked cycle route 201 leads from Kyšice via Valdek to Družec. A special annual cultural event is the “Čarodějnice” festival, featuring a lantern procession through the village.

For relaxation, Kyšice has a sauna with women-only sessions on Tuesdays from 18:00 to 22:00 and men-only sessions on Thursdays from 18:00 to 22:00. Private rentals are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 to 22:00; the last admission is at 20:00 in each case.
