Valašská Senice – Nature, Trails and Living Tradition
Valašská Senice combines a protected mountain landscape, trails for active days and vibrant regional traditions. The entire cadastral area lies at the southwestern tip of the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. When choosing your accommodation, it is therefore especially useful to consider which experiences you would like to focus on: quiet landscapes, a walk or mountain bike ride, water and sports, or special village customs.
A landscape of pastures, forests and mountain ridges
The surroundings are characterized by picturesque slopes with pastures and wooden houses, deep forests with sunny clearings, clear streams and mountain ridges offering wide views. A specific starting point for a break is the Chladné studánky area in the upper part of the municipality, on the road to the Selanka chalet. There is a well-maintained spring there that does not freeze even in winter, as well as a wooden pavilion with benches. A small pond lies nearby, where wild ducks breed.
The nearby landscape around Pulčín and the Hradisko slope also offers distinctive natural formations. Layered sandstone forms individual rocks, rock walls and entire rock cities there. Two pseudokarst caves are also located on the northwestern slope of Hradisko. In the Pulčín–Hradisko Nature Reserve, entering areas outside marked hiking trails is prohibited by law. A seasonally marked trail leads to the winter icefalls and is open from January 1 to March 30.
Trails, water and activities
A circular route begins in the center of Valašská Senice and can be completed on foot or by mountain bike. This allows you to explore the surroundings in different ways without having to commit to a single mode of transport. The Hornolidečský Circuit, part of the Hornolidečská Magistrala, also passes through Valašská Senice. A renovated outdoor swimming pool provides an opportunity to cool off along the way.
For a stay with different daily rhythms, the Koupaliště outdoor swimming pool offers specific facilities: the swimming pool is 25 meters long and up to 1.75 meters deep; there is also a children's pool and a paddling pool. The Koupaliště also has courts for volleyball, nohejbal and badminton, as well as table tennis tables. Another experience option is Horská farma Severka, which focuses on agrotourism. Visitors can see sheep, goats, a cow, horses and a donkey on the grounds.
Village life and regional特色
One of Valašská Senice's recognizable traditions is Fašank. The end of the carnival season has been celebrated here regularly since 1963. The Fašank procession passes through the village, followed by a celebration in the municipal office hall, which begins with the ceremonial burial of the bass. A traditional Mass is held at the Chapel of Saint Hubert and Saint Joseph on May 1. The Chapel of Saint Hubert is described as a log structure with a carved altar and outdoor seating.
Regional cuisine is also connected with local events. At Zvěřinové hody on August 24, 2024, the dishes offered included venison steak with French fries, roast wild boar with cabbage and dumplings, and venison goulash. This specific event date is part of the documented history of the place and should not be treated as a current date.
