Discover Prostřední Bečva

Prostřední Bečva combines protected landscapes, trails for active days and distinctive cultural sites. The municipality lies entirely within the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Beskydy). This means your travel planning can include a variety of experiences side by side: a cycling trip along the Rožnovská Bečva, educational trails in the mountains, a natural swimming pool and the distinctive architecture of Pustevny.

Trails between the Bečva, Pustevny and Radhošť

The Cyklostezka Bečva runs through Prostřední Bečva. It follows the course of the Rožnovská Bečva, providing a clearly defined route for anyone who wants to explore the area by bicycle. Another type of excursion is the Radhošťská ovčí dálnice educational trail. It has nine stops, is approximately 4 km long and leads from the Pustevny saddle to the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius on Radhošť.

Depending on the season, this educational trail can be experienced in different ways: in winter it can be completed on skis, while in summer it can be explored by mountain bike. A route from Prostřední Bečva to Pustevny is also suggested as a hike; it is 8.6 km long. Its possible starting point is the “U požárního domu” bus stop. The route is therefore explicitly described as a suggestion and not as a general statement about all paths in the surrounding area.

Another destination to discover on foot is the Pustevenská ZOO educational trail. It features life-size wooden animal sculptures, with information boards explaining the respective animals at each stop. On the Čertův mlýn educational trail, Čertův stůl is the distinctive reference point: the rock formation lies on the ridge of Čertův mlýn.

Natural swimming pool and protected landscape

For a quieter part of the day, there is the Prostřední Bečva natural swimming pool. Water is purified in a special basin planted with aquatic plants; chemical treatment is not required there. The pool also has a shallow paddling pool for children and non-swimmers, as well as a swimming area with a maximum depth of 2.5 m.

Even beyond individual excursion destinations, landscape protection remains a defining theme. The Kněhyně–Čertův mlýn National Nature Reserve covers 52.9697 hectares in the cadastral territory of Prostřední Bečva. This figure describes the portion of the reserve located there and complements the broader classification within the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area.

Pustevny and the Church of St. Zdislava

For orientation at Pustevny, Brána Pusteven next to the car park offers a bus stop, public toilets and a tourist information centre. The part of the Pustevny area located in the cadastral territory of Prostřední Bečva contains wooden mountain houses dating from 1891 to 1900. They were built according to designs by the architect Dušan Jurkovič; they include Maměnka and Libušín.

Another cultural point of interest is the Church of St. Zdislava. It was built in 2001 according to a design by the architect Jan Kovář from Opava. Relics of Saint Zdislava are displayed in the church. In this way, the site complements the natural and mountain experiences with a visit where architectural history and religious cultural heritage are directly connected.
