Discover Bořenovice: Chapels, Monuments and Cycling Routes

Bořenovice among Chapels, Monuments and Cycling Routes

Bořenovice is a destination for travellers who seek cultural history beyond the major cities. Highlights include a Baroque family chapel, a historic bell tower, religious roadside monuments and cycling connections through the village and its surroundings. When choosing accommodation in Bořenovice, you can therefore plan your stay around small monuments, historical reminders and regional cycling routes.

Baroque Chapel and the Bořenovská Bell Tower

The Šinkyřík family chapel is a Baroque chapel built in 1885. It is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and stands on the road to Pacetluky. On 27 November 1963, it was entered in the state register of immovable cultural monuments. Its history thus combines a specific construction period, a religious connection and documented heritage significance.

Another important landmark is the Bořenovská bell tower. It was probably built during the reign of Maria Theresa and historically served both as a warning signal and as a call to prayer. In 2010, the bell tower was declared a cultural monument. It is also one of the oldest preserved village bell towers in the Zlín Region. For families with different interests, this site offers an illustrative contrast between sacred architecture and village community history.

Roadside Shrines and Memorial Sites

Distinct historical points of interest can also be found along the roads around Bořenovice. Kaplička pod lípou – Boží muka is a small roadside shrine beneath a broad, spreading lime tree on the road between Holešov and Bořenovice, closer to Bořenovice. It was probably built in the mid-18th century. Another chapel on the same road, but closer to Holešov, was built around 1874.

Coming from Holešov, a cross-shaped memorial to the soldiers who fell in the First World War stands at the entrance to the village. It commemorates seven fallen soldiers from Bořenovice and was erected on 1 September 1922. In the direction of Pacetluky, a stone statue of Panna Maria Svatohostýnská also stands on the right at the exit from the village. It was created in 1946 to commemorate the end of the Second World War and as an expression of gratitude that Bořenovice suffered no fatalities in that war.

Historical Traces Beyond the Village

The religious history extends beyond the individual buildings. From the Šinkyřík family’s Marian chapel, the residents of Bořenovice once set out in prayerful procession to the pilgrimage site of Svatý Hostýn. This procession is part of the village’s historical tradition and should not be understood as information about a current event.

Another trail leads to the former Bořenovský windmill. It was built in Bořenovice in 1795 and stood east of the village until 1976. The Rymice Open-Air Museum is home to the wooden windmill of the German type, relocated there from nearby Bořenovice. This makes it possible to discover local history in the context of regional everyday life and craft culture as well.

Bořenovice as a Starting Point for Cycling Trips

For cyclists, a paved farm track leads from Pacetluky through Bořenovice to Holešov. In Holešov, they can join regional cycling route 5033. In addition, a microregional cycling loop runs through Holešov, Bořenovice, Pacetluky, Karlovice, Kostelec u Hol., Roštění and Rymice. When choosing accommodation, the key consideration is therefore the preferred combination: historic sites directly in Bořenovice or a travel plan connecting Bořenovice with Holešov, Pacetluky, Karlovice, Kostelec u Hol., Roštění and Rymice, as well as with cycling connections in the surrounding region.
