Martinice

Martinice combines distinctive memorial sites, local traditions and a direct cycle connection to Holešov. In the village, you will find an old bell tower, monuments and a stone atonement cross; a newly built cycle path also leads from Martinice to Holešov and the Holešov industrial zone. Memorial Sites with a Clear History

On the outskirts of Martinice, beside the road in the locality of “U dvou křížů”, stands the old stone atonement cross “Smírčí kříž” with an engraved sword symbol. The cross dates from the first half of the 17th century and has been protected as a cultural monument since 3 May 1958. The outline of a sword is clearly visible on its stone surface. It is precisely this combination of great age, protected status and a clearly recognisable symbol that makes the site an unusual historical detail in Martinice.

In the built-up area of Martinice, near the primary school building and Road II/490, stands a monument to the victims of the First World War. It is a granite obelisk on a stepped base with a relief. The war memorial commemorates twelve young men from Martinice who did not return from the First World War. Another memorial site is located at Primary School No. 70: the memorial plaque to Jan Bezděk is also near Road II/490. It commemorates Jan Bezděk, who was born in Martinice and was executed in Frankfurt am Main on 18 March 1944 because of his resistance activities.

The old bell tower is also part of the villagescape. It is a landmark of the village square and is dedicated to Saint Florian, the patron saint of the municipality. The Mojena stream flows through Martinice and adds a natural element to the local points of orientation.
