Uhřice – Castle History and the Morkovice–Nezamyslice Cycle Path

Uhřice combines a clearly recognisable castle history with a cycle path that runs through Uhřice u Kroměříže. Uhřice Castle is a Neoclassical castle with late Baroque elements, surrounded by a farmyard. It was first mentioned in the 14th century as an estate and probably as a fortress. The final and most significant alterations took place in 1764 under its owner, Michal Chorynský. The castle’s history therefore cannot be reduced to a single construction phase: its present-day Neoclassical appearance stands alongside older late Baroque and medieval references.

A particularly vivid detail can be found in the entrance hall, the Sala terrena. There is a secco ceiling painting depicting four winds blowing the breath of life towards the centre. The castle chapel was consecrated in 1773 as the Chapel of the Finding of the Holy Cross.
