Discover Krahulčí

Krahulčí combines an extraordinary pilgrimage church with cycling and hiking routes. The Church of St. John of Nepomuk

The Church of St. John of Nepomuk is at the centre of the cultural discoveries. It was built as a pilgrimage church between 1726 and 1728. Its significance extends beyond the year of construction: it was the first church in the Czech lands dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. Krahulčí therefore has a clearly recognisable historical focus that is linked to an extraordinary dedication.

The architecture can also be explored through specific features. The church has a single-nave body, a semicircular apse and a façade with two slender towers. These elements give the building its distinctive form and make a visit interesting not only because of its history. Cycling around Krahulčí

Two cycling connections are relevant for active exploration. Cycling route 1113 Jindřichův Hradec–Telč passes through Krahulčí. Jindřichův Hradec and Telč form the two endpoints of this connection. Cycling route 5124 Javořice–Knínice is one of the marked cycle routes in the Telčsko region. The two routes therefore lead in different directions: one runs through Krahulčí between Jindřichův Hradec and Telč, while the other connects Javořice and Knínice within the marked Telčsko cycling network.

Hiking trails with different distance details

For hiking, there is a marked yellow trail from Dobrá Voda to Krahulčí; it is 3 kilometres long. Another hiking trail leads from Krahulčí onward to Telč for approximately 1.5 kilometres.

Landscape feature and memorial

West of Krahulčí, beside a field path approximately 100 metres south of the road to Telč, stands a large-leaved lime tree (Tilia platyphylla).

Another notable stop is the memorial “Pomník Obětem 2. světové války”. It includes an area with urns containing the ashes of four citizens from Telč who were executed in 1944 at the Brandenburg concentration camp. Their urns were found after the war. The memorial thus provides a serious historical perspective on Krahulčí and complements the pilgrimage church, cycling routes and hiking trails with another specific place of remembrance.
