Kostelec

Kostelec combines water sports, history and regional traditions within a compact area. The Silniční rybník reservoir is particularly distinctive: the water area designated for water sports is 550 metres long and 150 metres wide. This gives Kostelec a clearly defined destination for a stay where active experiences and cultural discoveries can take place side by side.

On Silniční rybník in the cadastral area of Kostelec u Jihlavy, water skiing and acrobatic activities are permitted daily from 07:00 to 19:00. Visitors can hire equipment at the water-skiing venue and receive expert instruction. This also makes the site interesting for you if you do not just want to watch but would like to try water skiing yourself on site.

The KVL Slavoj Kostelec Water Skiing Club has been active on Silniční rybník since 1969. In addition, international water-skiing races regularly take place in June under the name Kostelec Cup. According to regional tourism information, Kostelec is the only place in the Vysočina region where water skiing can be tried. Depending on when you travel, you can therefore combine your visit with an individual water-sports experience or with an event listed in the calendar.

Church, Trade Route and Local History

Above the Jihlava River stands the Church of St. Kunhuta on a hill. It was built no later than the middle of the 13th century and has a preserved Gothic south portal. The site is therefore suitable not only as a starting point for activities on the water but also for a brief cultural and historical exploration with a tangible medieval connection.

The historic Humpolecká trade route towards Třešť also ran through Kostelec. There, it presumably crossed the Jihlava River at a ford. On the road to Jihlava stands the Chapel of the Virgin Mary, which received new roof timbers and sheet-metal roofing, as well as exterior painting and interior decoration. These individual landmarks provide the surroundings with different historical points of interest, without requiring you to limit yourself to a single attraction.

Regional Traditions and Routes to Kostelec

The culinary history is also part of the townscape. In 1917, the company Továrna na uzeniny a konzervy, spol. s r.o. was founded in Kostelec. Kostelecké uzeniny has been part of the country's culinary traditions for more than a hundred years.

For travel by train, Kostelec u Jihlavy railway station is located on line 225 between Havlíčkův Brod and Veselí nad Lužnicí, as well as on line 227 between Kostelec u Jihlavy and Slavonice. Cyclists can consider the Jihlava–Čeřínek–Kostelec cycling excursion: it follows cycle route 5090 from Cejle to Kostelec.
