Historical Traces and Distinctive Architecture

Hodice was first mentioned in 1303. The Hodice fortress is also historically documented: it was mentioned in 1377. The fortress later disappeared as the last surviving testimony of the former Hodice estate. One surviving building provides a different architectural accent. Jelení hora is located in this forest and, at 652 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in the vicinity of Hodice.

Jelení hora is also associated with a recurring tradition: a New Year’s Eve ascent takes place every year. This date adds a seasonal highlight to the events calendar and clearly differs from an ordinary hiking day. Those visiting Hodice around the turn of the year can therefore also view the mountain in the context of this annual ascent.

Local Tradition in October

Another established feature of local life is Vepřové hody. It is considered the most popular event in Hodice and usually takes place on the first weekend in October.
