Kyškovice on the Elbe: Wine, Cycling Routes and Art

Kyškovice is situated on the right bank of the Elbe. Winegrowing, cycling routes, a gallery and historic buildings offer different points of connection for a stay: you can combine the river landscape and views with regional wine culture, art and local history.

Elbe, Wine and Cycling Routes

The Podřipská farma and Galeriér complex is located directly on the Elbe in a quiet setting surrounded by nature. From the edge of Hamráček above the riverbank, there is a view of a long bend in the river, the Podřipsko plain and the distinctive Říp mountain. Kyškovice can also serve as a starting point for trips into the České středohoří tourist area.

For cyclists, two documented routes pass through or lead to Kyškovice: the alternative Labská stezka 2A cycle route leads to Kyškovice and passes a hop field there. A cycling loop connected to it runs from Roudnice nad Labem via Kyškovice to Brzánky and is 24 kilometres long. The Polabské stezky za vínem a poznáním route also passes through Kyškovice.

Several information boards along this route provide information about attractive tourist destinations near the trail. Several wineries can be visited along the route, and wines from both Bohemian wine-growing subregions can be sampled. Wine is grown in Kyškovice.

Art and History in the Village

Galeriér is an art studio and exhibition gallery in Kyškovice. It is located in a former hop-drying building; visitors can view exhibitions there. For a daily fee, Galeriér offers access to painting in a professionally equipped environment and supports beginners with the basics. Professional easels, worktables and a complete range of painting equipment are available on site. The rooms can be used for creative work, exhibitions, workshops, courses and vernissages.

The historic wine press building is part of the village’s history. It housed a wine press dating from 1712 and also served as a place for community gatherings and entertainment for local residents. Kyškovice was first mentioned in a written document in 1253. The name Kyškovice is connected with the former Kyškov fortress, which stood on the site of today’s Obora.

The former “U Víchů” inn, today house number 3, was also built in 1742. An amateur theatre group performed three to four plays there annually from 1903 to 1955, except during the years of the Second World War. After the cultural centre was completed in 1957, the group was revived and remained active, with interruptions, until 1991.

The nearest place with a railway station is Dobříň. Kyškovice also has a sports facility.
