Kundratice between Village History and Varhošť

Kundratice combines village history with experiences in the landscape around Varhošť. The cultural traces in the village and the described hiking route from Litoměřice via Kundratice to the summit connect village history and landscape: in the village, the chapel, stone cross, and historic buildings are the main features; at the summit, views of the Central Bohemian Uplands open up.

Historic Traces in the Villagescape

In the eastern part of the village square are the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk and a stone cross with a cast-iron corpus Christi. Villa Julia Lippert dates from 1884. Half-timbered and log buildings have also been preserved in Kundratice.

From the mid-19th century, Kundratice developed into a climatic resort. In 1867, Villa Jindřiška welcomed its first guests in the upper part of Kundratice as a guesthouse with a restaurant and was also used as an air spa. An Empire-style forester’s lodge has likewise been preserved in the upper part. In the lower part of Kundratice, former farmsteads with barns have been preserved.

The historic character is thus distributed across several areas: religious monuments stand on the village square; in the upper part, villas and the forester’s lodge complement the history of the resort; and in the lower part, former farmsteads with barns shape the preserved building stock. This makes it possible to connect different building forms and village areas while exploring the locality.

Hiking to Varhošť

The 8 km hiking route from Litoměřice to Varhošť leads from the upper railway station along the green-marked route through Miřejovice, Hlinná, and Kundratice. In Kundratice, at the junction with the yellow-marked route, it continues uphill on a road to the saddle below Varhošť and onward to the summit.

The route is clearly structured for orientation: from Litoměřice to Kundratice, it follows the green marking through several villages; at the junction with the yellow route, the described ascent along the road begins. The 8 km thus connect the village passage, saddle, and summit in one continuous hike.

Views and Cycling Route

Varhošť is a 639 m-high, forested basalt mountain near Kundratice. An observation tower stands on its summit. It offers views of the Central Bohemian Uplands; from there, the course of the Elbe can be seen at eight points.

Cycling route 3057 branches off south of Hlinná from the cadastral area of Kamýk onto road III/24719 and continues north along this road. Road III/24719 connects Miřejovice, Hlinná, Kundratice, and Čeřeniště. For orientation by bicycle, route 3057 complements the hiking route with its own linear connection. Hiking and cycling therefore emphasize different aspects of the same landscape.
