Discover Ctiněves: Říp, Church and Brewing Culture

Ctiněves combines the landscape around Říp with a remarkable village history, ecclesiastical heritage and its own brewing tradition. If you would like to combine nature experiences, culture and regional specialties during your trip, you will find several different points of interest here within a compact thematic area.

Hiking on Říp

A red-marked hiking trail leading over the summit of Říp passes through Ctiněves. At the same time, the village lies below the southeastern slopes of Říp. This precise location makes the village particularly interesting when planning a stay that combines a hike with insights into the history and everyday life of the region.

The mountain location and the marked trail offer different points of focus: Říp represents the landscape experience, while Ctiněves has its own village character with its church, festival traditions and regional cuisine. This makes it possible to view outdoor activity, local history and culinary impressions as different parts of the same trip.

Location

Ctiněves railway station is located on line 095 between Vraňany and Zlonice. For orientation, the railway station complements the village’s landscape and cultural themes with a regional connection.

Church of St. Matthew and the History of the Village

The Church of St. Matthew complex is located in the geographical center of Ctiněves. The church dates from the 13th century, has Romanesque origins and has been rebuilt several times. Historical tombstones have been preserved inside the church. These include the tombstone of Albrecht ze Zap, made of red marble and featuring a life-size relief depiction of a knight.

The village’s history also reaches far back: the first written mention of Ctiněves dates from 1318. The village also preserves a special tradition. According to local legend, the forefather of Bohemia, Praotec Čech, is buried in the Church of St. Matthew. For visitors, this creates a cultural connection that extends beyond the visible architectural history, without equating the legend with historical evidence.

Church Festival and Local Specialties

Every year, the Posvícení church festival takes place in Ctiněves on the Sunday after the feast of Saint Matthew. The date is part of the local tradition and can be a special occasion for planning your trip if you would like to get to know the village in connection with its festival calendar.

For culinary orientation, there is the Hostinec U praotce Čecha in Ctiněves. It offers cold dishes and, to a limited extent, hot dishes as well. Another local specialty is the Podřipský rodinný minipivovar. The brewery produces top-fermented and bottom-fermented beers that are unfiltered and unpasteurized. The adjoining taproom can accommodate up to 60 people. The beers bear the designation “ČESKÉ STŘEDOHOŘÍ Regionální produkt”.
