The Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the Village Square

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary stands on Rochov’s village square. It is an Empire-style chapel dating from the first half of the 19th century. Its design is not characterized by a free-standing structure: the chapel is structurally connected to a bell tower and a fire station.

A broad bell tower rises above the gable. A clock is located beneath the upper cornice, giving the building a particularly distinctive detail. This combination of chapel, tower and fire station makes the village center a vivid example of how religious, public and everyday functions can be seen side by side within a village setting.

Historical Traces in the Village

Rochov’s history also includes the tradition of two farmsteads. They were donated by the Vladik Troch of Brozany to the Prague Augustinian Monastery of St. Thomas in the Lesser Town. This reference to the donation broadens the view from the village center to the former ownership and monastic connections of the place.

Rochov Fortress is also among the historical traces. It was described as dilapidated in the first half of the 16th century. This picture is complemented by the monastic agricultural farmstead, which is one of Rochov’s notable sights.

Rochov lies along a section of the regional cycling route CT 3124 (Úštěcká). The section near Rochov runs along a service road and a regular road and is passable. Lovoš and Kibička are located in the regional surroundings of Rochov. A 50-hectare nature reserve was designated there in 1948. These landscape features complement the local history with a nature-related aspect and provide another point of interest for planning your trip.
